Online Dating is Getting Popularity for Meeting Potential Partners

When they are speaking about looking for love, dating online is the right place to look at. Research made by Stanford University showed that dating online is quickly replacing offline dating as the preferred option for meeting partners to date. According to Michael Rosenfeld, sociologist at Stanford University, the biggest groups which prefer to go online to find love are middle-aged heterosexuals that search for dates on best seniors dating websites, lesbians, and gays that search for partners on specialized online dating sites. Particularly those groups have abandoned usual means of meeting potential partners to date like thanks to local outlets, family, or friends.

“Today people also meet partners for romance in those places, but it may seem less common,” Rosenfeld said. “The Internet is replacing those classic places.”

Rosenfeld questioned approximately 3,000 adults and got the results of this survey that showed that nearly 61% of gay participators met their partners through online dating during the last two years. However, for couples who are heterosexual only 23% met life partners thanks to the Internet, many still are saying that they were connected thanks to the offline friends.

“I did not expect that the difference will be as significant as that,” said Rosenfeld. “But after doing additional interviews with subjects of survey, the statistics was not unreasonable.”

As the sociologist said, online dating sites provide some degree of anonymity and that is usually more important for lesbians and gay men who do not want to risk by outing themselves to neighbors, co-workers or relatives who do not support them. The sites also enlarge a seemingly small dating pool.

“The Web gives a spectacular chance for everyone seeking for something unusual,” said Rosenfeld. “That includes every person looking for spare parts for a printer or special batteries for a 1972 camera that has been out of its production for over 20 years. And it can also include people who are searching for a partner that is in an enormous population.”

It was estimated that there are approximately 120,000 marriages each year as a right result of people that met online.
